This variety of Elm is sometimes also called the Slippery
Elm. A tonic can be made from the inner bark of the
tree. The wood itself has a strong and distinctive grain
pattern. Elm is known for it's toughness and this makes
it an excellent wood for the steambending process, which
is used to shape many parts of the chair. The colour
tone ranges throughout the medium golden browns depending
on the log used.
